PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Power House based on a 12 Step Model and Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy. Research and experience indicate that the group milieu is the treatment of choice for dealing with addiction. The program is designed with a six to nine month stay; each client at Power House is an individual and thus, the treatment plan and length of stay varies for each person. Our experience indicates those patients who participate in intensive Family Therapy as a part of the treatment process have the best opportunity to maintain their recovery. Below is a "typical" outline for our treatment program.

PHASE I_________________________________________________________

This is a period of "settling in", getting to know their fellow residents and becoming orientated to the rules and expectations of the program. This includes securing employment or beginning an education program (such as correspondence or GED program) and beginning to accept and comply with the intense schedule of Power House therapeutic activities.

RESIDENTS BEGIN TO:

  • Identify and appropriately express their emotions.
  • Identify and appropriately deal with self-defeating thoughts and behaviors.
  • Actively participate in their own treatment planning, including family.

PHASE II_________________________________________________________

Residents take emotional risks by initiating honest and authentic relationships and by developing and practicing the skills for dealing with their emotions and impulses.

  • They accept responsibility for, and the consequences of, their behavior both past and present.
  • They become actively involved in a 12 step program, begin to deepen their spiritual life and concentrate on their physical health and family issues.
  • They initiate more independent living skills (self care, appearance, household responsibilities, time management and budgeting).

PHASE III________________________________________________________

Residents integrate the living skills they have gained by developing greater independence.

  • Using their 12 step program, sponsors, friends and counselors for support.
  • During this period they make their discharge plans, including but not limited to: future living arrangements, employment/education and plans for aftercare counseling.

Our experience has shown that family members of Power House residents need a great deal of support while becoming educated about the disease of Chemical Dependency, identifying how the disease has affected their lives and beginning their own "healing" process. Al-Anon, "Open" AA meetings and Families Anonymous are the best sources of support for understanding and recovery from the ravages of this "family" illness. We encourage participation in family meetings as well as family therapy. We will make additional 12 step program and aftercare counseling recommendations.
